 So you’ve decided to create your blog! Now what? Before you start brainstorming and building, it’s important to do some research on what your niche should be. In this article, we’ll give you the steps to take to find your perfect blog niche and lay the groundwork for the future success of your website.

Why are niches important? 

Before diving into niche research, it's important to know why choosing a niche is so important. 

There are four key reasons you should choose a niche for your content

First, you need something easy for you to be passionate about. You won’t go far if you don’t love what you’re writing about. This means it should be something that interests and intrigues you—if you can't get excited about it, no one else will either. 

Second, you need to have enough knowledge of your topic to write intelligently about it. If you're going to write a post on DIY home repairs, you'd better know how to do those repairs yourself! 

Third, as mentioned above, niche blogging helps build trust with readers by showing them that you're an expert in your field. 

Finally, a niche allows readers (and search engines) who have questions or problems related to your topic to find you easily when they search online. 

Steps For Creating a Winning Niche

As with most things in life, niche research is a process. But if you follow these steps, you'll find your winning niche in no time. 

(1) Do Your Market Research Before Getting Started

First, do some homework and research potential best niches that could serve as good blogging topics for you. A quick Google search of [topic] keyword + best + niche will turn up dozens of related articles and blogs on all kinds of subjects. Be sure to look at what is being written about your topic so far, who else is writing about it, and how popular their content appears to be. You may be surprised at what you discover!

Once you've done your initial market research, narrow down your niche ideas into one or two concepts that stand out from everything else you've found. If there are too many competing sites already out there, it's going to be hard for you to succeed unless you can come up with something unique and different. Don't worry if they're not perfect just yet - we'll refine them later on... 

(3) Brainstorm Related Topics & Keywords For Each Idea

Now that we have our niche ideas narrowed down, let's brainstorm related topics and keywords around each one. This step is important because it will help us figure out exactly what kind of content we want to create, which in turn helps us figure out where to share it online. It also gives us more opportunities to learn about our audience and their needs. Just make sure you don't get stuck here - keep moving forward! 

(4) Choose One Winner Niche Idea & Refine It Even Further

After doing all that niche research, choose one winner idea based on its popularity and relevancy among readers (as well as any other metrics). Then go back through your previous notes and try refining your niche even further by thinking about questions readers might ask or problems they might have when looking for information on your topic. Based on those questions/problems, think about specific types of content you could create to address those issues. 

Remember, we're trying to build an audience around a community, not just a single piece of content... 

(5) Write Content That Solves Problems For Readers

Now that we know what type of content people are looking for within our niche and how they'd like to consume it, let's start creating some stuff! Start with simple 'how-to' posts and then begin building trust within your niche community by answering reader questions and solving their problems over time. The more value you provide within your niche community, the more loyal followers you'll develop over time... 

(6) Build Your Email List

Over time, you should develop a loyal following of readers and subscribers that trust you to provide valuable content on your niche topic. Eventually, they'll become engaged enough with your content that they'll be willing to give you their email addresses in exchange for access to exclusive content (like free downloads, discounts, etc.). Keep building that list and providing value to your audience over time until it reaches the point where you can monetize it with products and services (that you created specifically for them)... 

(7) Monetize Your Audience With Products & Services

Finally, once your email list has grown large enough and is engaged enough with your content, it's time to monetize it! Offer your audience a product or service that is directly related to your niche topic and use it as a way to introduce yourself to new readers. By offering a freebie or discount in exchange for their email address, you'll be able to generate sales and grow your business. 

(8) Rinse & Repeat! 

With that, you've completed your first successful niche research & content creation cycle! At that point, you can rinse and repeat all over again with another niche idea if you wish. And if not, congratulations on completing your first successful niche research & content creation cycle! 

You're now ready to move onto the next stage of launching a profitable business... I've also seen niche research called niche selection. Regardless of what you call it, it's a useful activity to consider. The idea is that if you are going to spend your time and energy on a particular topic, you want to make sure that there is enough interest in that topic for it to be worth your while. One thing I've noticed is that bloggers often have difficulty with this stage. They'll have some idea of what they would like to write about but haven't taken the time to research whether or not there is enough interest in their niche for them to invest their time and energy.

There are a few extra things you should think about before jumping into niche research. 

Namely, if you’re planning on starting a blogging career and are thinking of building an empire of blogs, each one with its topic, well it might be worth going deep into niche research right now. You see, these topics have already proven their popularity and that’s not something that happens overnight. People love getting tips on how to make their lives easier (or at least how to solve one particular problem), and finding a hot niche helps ensure your success as a blogger. 

For example, say you want to start a personal finance niche site. You could write tips on saving money in every area of life or tips for different types of people based on their age or income level. That way, when someone searches for personal finance tips for millennials, they find your site instead of some other random website filled with outdated information. The same goes for all kinds of niches—there are plenty of them out there! 

So don't get stuck looking at one niche only. If you're serious about starting a business around your content, then try to cover multiple niches so that you can reach more people. The more people who know about your content, the better! 

And don't forget - once you've found a niche and started writing tips based on it, keep searching for more niches! It's important to stay up-to-date with what's trending to give your readers what they need most.
